I’m just leaving NORWAC – a phenomenal astrology conference out in Seattle – and am headed out on a multi-week road trip to celebrate my 40th birthday. This message will be my only message for June and focuses on the highlights I’ve chosen for the whole month.
From a broad perspective, it’s a well rounded month we’re entering with lots of flavor. We’ll have an interesting mixture of highs and lows, tension and flow, sobriety and excitement. Get the schedule & board the train!
Now – June 22: Venus in Taurus (the sweet)
Venus in her home sign of Taurus from now until June 22 is prime time for enjoyment and relaxation. Venus in Taurus heightens our physical senses. It’s a leisurely spell and the perfect time for a vacation. If you haven’t planned one or can’t retreat from your responsibilities for awhile, think about the small ways you can sprinkle pleasure into life over these few weeks! There’s never been a better time to:
June 3: Mercury turns direct & squares Saturn (the salty)
The month also starts off with Mercury finishing its retrograde while Saturn begins its own. This means both planets are moving super slow PLUS forming a harsh angle to one another in the 5-6 days bracketing June 3rd. What you can expect is a time period resembling Mercury retrograde on steroids.
I’m already seeing a large dose of this in my life. I’ve had last minute changes in schedule, lost reservations, scarce Wi-Fi for getting this message to you, and three lost personal items in the last 48 hours. Wowsers :- /
Again, this aspect layered onto Venus in Taurus favors a rest from mental and work-oriented things in early June. Work if you must, but let go of expected outcomes. Glitches may come up for you as they have for me, and we must improvise. If it feels like swimming upstream: stop whatever you’re focusing on, walk away, and come back. You’ll find yourself “recalibrated” after a break.
June 4 – October 23: Saturn Retrograde
Saturn represents the shape of one’s general life structure. Saturn’s journey forward over the last 7 months (since October 2021) supported you in making major decisions that affect the material components of your life. It encouraged the addition new components such as commitments to new projects, jobs, goals, budgets, partners, and so forth. It also supported you as you discerned things needing to be removed from your life that were inconsistent with where you are headed.
But on June 4th, the journey of life development turns inward. While life continues moving forward, we’re now asked to observe a pause in decision-making and structural life changes. It’s a bit of an “incubation period” on external life development, you might say.
Saturn retrograde offers something different in terms of growth over the coming months. We are entering a 5-month phase of inner achievement. We’re asked to come face-to-face with our internal (ego) boundaries and break through them. The tests we come up against may not be asking us for outward action, but to refine how we perceive and sit with the challenges that come up in life.
“What the heck are you talking about, Jules?” Well, I literally wrote this section of my newsletter under a tree in the rain today and feel it’s the perfect metaphor for what I’m trying to explain…
I was about 1/2 mile into a hike in Washington when the first drops fell. My thought process looked like this: Do I go back to the car and wait for who knows how long for the sun? Or do I continue up this massive hill in the rain? Neither option felt good so the decision felt forced. But there in front of me was a tree and a rock.
Instead of making any yes/no decision, I took cover on the rock under the tree and sat down. The pause and period of non-decision allowed me to do 2 things: (1) I was able to confront the inner process of disappointment that tried to take over and force a decision that didn’t feel good when the rain seemed to threaten my day. Why did I presume the rain was ruining anything? (2) Instead of forcing a solution to the rain itself, I turned my attention elsewhere and spent time working on this message to you. Wouldn’t you know, the rain stopped and as the sun came out, so did a huge bull moose, some beautiful birds and amazing shadows in the landscape. I’m so happy I was still in the place I was in for the perfectly-timed rewards.
There was no need to make a “continue or go home” decision in response to the rain. There was only an internal process to be done, the prospect of disappointment to be faced. I totally understand that solution-seeking is what we’re taught – it’s what we’re all used to doing. We perceive a problem so we fix it, right?? But consider for a moment that over the next 5+ months, issues that pop up are not (per se) about external action! It’s more important to learn something inwardly in the hard moments. (Of course, if you reach a crossroads where a big decision seems imperative during this period, please schedule a personal reading so we can discuss it. 🙂 )
June 11: Venus conjoins Uranus (the spice)
The relationship between Venus and Uranus deals with our ability to handle a sudden break from the norm (Uranus) in matters of love, relationship, personal values and taste (Venus). Life may present you with a sudden twist of fate, unexpected event, or chance meeting around this time. It cannot be judged in advance as good nor bad, though some surprises are more welcome than others. Those of us who are flexible, adventurous and enjoy a walk on the wild side may enjoy the excitement. Those of us whose cup of tea is all things nice, pleasant and stable may find a sudden change disruptive. Key word here is flexibiilty.
June 14: Full Moon in Sagittarius
This Full Moon represents a culmination of all the ways we’ve learned to escape daily life over the past few years of COVID. We’ve all added some pounds, gotten lax on our workouts, and over-indulged in alcohol and other substances. Granted, we need an escape now and again, times for just checking out and not dealing with anything at all. But can’t you do this in a more healthy, balanced, and routine way??? If not, it’s likely you’re in a painful cycle of binging on hard work followed by periods of complete exhaustion and bad habits.
At this Full Moon, you are supported in letting go of any unhealthy escape methods that have become your usual during the pandemic. This is your time to replace those habits with intentional, routine periods of rest and escape that better support your mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical wellbeing in the long run. I understand you want that glass of wine, and you can have it if you still want it AFTER you take a walk, meditate, or do a 20 minute yoga class on YouTube.
June 18: Venus squares Saturn (the pepper)
Saturn enforces rules, time management and discipline in our astrology system. On a day-to-day basis, Saturn keeps us apprised of the issues we must deal with. And when Venus (planet of love, money, relationships and pleasure) squares Saturn in the days surrounding June 18th, Saturn slows Venus down. Pleasure-loving Venus will be snapped back to reality and forced to face the music. And that’s okay! There’s a positive and constructive use of this transit available to you.
Instead of waiting for an issue to pop up that puts you under pressure, plan ahead of time to have a few serious days around the 18th. Take matters into your own hands and CHOOSE some Saturnian task that you already know needs to be done and do it June 16-20. It’s a great time for fasting and detoxing your body, reorganizing your closet, donating possessions you don’t need, making financial budgets, and having serious discussions with relationship partners. In the case of relationship talks, remember Saturn retrograde is about making internal changes, so set a good example by focusing on what you can do better for the partnership.
That wraps up the thoughts I have for now, so let’s recap our themes for June. This month, let’s SAY “YES TO:
