Hi, friends.
This year we’re swinging into Gemini season more quickly and emphatically than usual. Last month’s newsletter noted that after a full year in Taurus, Jupiter would shift into Gemini May 25th. The vibe certainly shifted this past week. In fact, the Sun and Venus preceded Jupiter into Gemini and Mercury soon follows. That means four-planets parading through Gemini the bulk of this month. Holy moly!
Aside from discussing the Gemini theme for June, this newsletter explores how the month pans out in four distinct phases, with the primary trouble spot spanning June 7-14. At the end you’ll learn which areas of YOUR life Jupiter brings into focus from now through June 2025.
The Gemini archetype is quick, changeable, versatile, curious and skillful. As beneficial as those qualities can be, the dual nature of Gemini represents a tendency to multitask and move in many directions at once. In my own birth chart, the Sun, Moon and Mercury are conjoined in Gemini. The struggle for consistency and calm has been real! My early life was plagued with frustrated attempts to harness and meaningfully direct my energy in one place long enough to accomplish something. This brings us to NEWSFLASH #1 for June:
June’s tempo is fast and flighty. You’ll have plenty of mental energy and enthusiasm, but it will take extra effort to focus your attention in any one place for long. You may get frustrated if you’re fixated on a large accomplishment for June. It would be better to identify a bunch of 2- and 3-hour tasks you can tackle in pockets of time throughout the month.
Furthermore, Gemini season heightens our impulse for connection, sociability and travel. Mercury’s prominence this month can help you by enhancing your writing, speaking, communication and planning skills. On the other hand, the social butterfly in you will be drawn to concerts, social events, patios and road trips. Hence, NEWSFLASH #2:
June is a circus of possibility with a number of acts, side shows, entertainment and people. You’ll be changing gears and juggling more than usual. So use due caution. None of us can keep 100 plates spinning at the same time. Who would even want to try? My advice is to schedule carefully or else you’ll be doing a ton of stuff half-heartedly.
If you’ve ever watched a trapeze act, you’ve been awed by the incredible focus of the performers. The performers cannot afford to be the slightest bit absent from what they’re doing. Their minds cannot wander – not even for a split second! Be the trapeze artist. It’s fine to do a little bit here, there and everywhere in June. But for each moment and task, work at staying fully absorbed in whatever you’re doing IN THAT MOMENT alone.
At the beginning of each year, I use green and red highlighters to mark the harmonious planetary aspects (green) and tense planetary aspects (red) for all 12 months. I’m left with a visual sense of the year as a whole, plus the flow of each month within it. June was striking insofar as it begins green, turns red, then green again. Like a wave, June appears to pan out in four distinct stages I’ve described below.
JUNE 1-6: Each of us began working toward a new level (or new type) of personal empowerment back in April 2020. This wasn’t necessarily conscious. But if you think back, I bet there was some drive for growth or self-betterment that set in during that year. It might have been a desire to rid yourself of a difficult family pattern or an endless cycle you felt caught in. Practical ambitions could have arisen too, like improving your finances, gaining authority at work, or taking your power back after it had been lost. What heavy life condition instigated your desire for change in 2020? Assuming you’ve put in the work, you’re now seeing evidence of the transformation that’s occurred over these last 4 years. The improvement in your inner and outer life situation is HERE! The balance has shifted for the better, and it’s time to celebrate the gains you’re making.
JUNE 7-13: This is the toughest timeframe of the month and stands in pretty stark contrast to the ease with which June kicks off. On June 7-9, the Sun and Venus move in to square Saturn. With Venus symbolizing enjoyment and Saturn’s propensity to say no, I’m surprised to see these alignments forming on the weekend. Perhaps things won’t go or feel like you want them to that weekend. This could manifest as bad news or weather, a disagreement with someone you love, a desire to relax getting trumped by your to-do list. The resulting sense of dissatisfaction sets the stage for a frustrating work week compliments of Mars square Pluto. The extreme inner tension and hostility that can arise with Mars in a harsh aspect to Pluto makes us triggerable. Battles of will, ego trips and power struggles will abound. If provoked, when feelings get intense, do all you can to keep this in the back of your mind: even things that aren’t a big deal tend to feel massive with Mars square Pluto. A warped perspective means it’s not a good time for decision-making.
JUNE 14-20: Things should start cooling off around the 14th. However, 3 planets squaring Neptune in this timeframe point to a wide range of potential outcomes depending on your activity. First of all, Neptune gives us an impulse to escape. We all need to relax and set aside our concerns from time to time. However, this period carries a high risk for over-indulgence on alcohol and drugs. Consider alternative means of respite like time in nature, floating in water, losing yourself in book, or binging a good TV series. Because Neptune connects us to our imagination and spiritual nature, this period favors working on creative projects as well as reconnecting with our spiritual center. To the extent you encounter feelings of emptiness or longing, it’s time to foster (or establish) a bond with your higher power, the Earth, something larger than the self. This is the perfect time to work at establishing what larger system of meaning feels authentic to YOU.
JUNE 21-31: The astrology of this last portion of June is for identifying and enhancing your feeling of security, coziness and rootedness in life. For some of us, our comfort and security is derived from the sanctuary of our home. It’s a perfect time to celebrate your love for “home” with household projects and tidying up. Family may come into focus at this time too. Whether that means chosen family or biological relatives for you, what’s critical now is a sense of belonging and having a safe space to share ourselves intimately with others. Make efforts to gather, share meals and memories with those who make you feel loved and accepted.
My only caveat for this last part of June is that Saturn turns retrograde the 29th. If you feel some heaviness around June 29, please return to the newsletter and read this paragraph. Saturn turning retrograde at month’s end tests your relationship to time and responsibility. Saturn brings us face-to-face with our ability to handle pressure, establish true priorities, and say “no” when we need to. Recently, a friend explaining to me that everything at her job felt like a crisis said, “I have to remind myself that I’m not doing brain surgery or delivering babies here!” I draw on the humor and truth of her sentiment often. When I find myself feeling overwhelmed, I know I need to take a hard look at what’s stressing me. Is it really an emergency? Are these things as critical as they feel? How can I buy myself relief? Where can I say “no”?
